New Grain bridge, work of an architect
Boris Podrecca and the river stop
by the Red house, work of an architect Breda Bizjak, were ceremoniously
opened to the public on 24th of august 2010 in the center of Slovenian
capital as a part of the series of river bank arrangements which are
intensively going on for over two years.
There are twenty river
stop projects envisaged along Ljubljanica river and also the regular
boat line will start operating in the near future. This river stop is
one of the first built for this purpose.
It consists of prefabricated
concrete platform made of artificial stone and wooden floating device
on the river level. The concrete platform is composed of three soft-edge
montage elements which formally follow the configuration of the
embankment and make a console conclusion over the water. Console
soft-edge elements of stairs and benches which are attached to this
three elements have built-in led linear lights which make this soft
looking concrete even softer in the evening.
Pontoon construction of
the floating device is made entirely of stainless steel and attached
with two rings on two steel pillars which enable vertical movement and
adjustment to different water levels. The adjustable steel stairs which
enable the access to the pontoon are constructed especially for this
project and operate by the parallelogram principle which enable the
adjustment of the stairs to water hight differences of 1,5 m. The stair
construction is made in collaboration with Mechanical engineering
faculty, University of Ljubljana.
Ljubljana has been living detached
from the river for over a century. Physical and programme connections to
the river has given new dimension and perception to the city of
Ljubljana.
It is essential for a city by the water that lives in close relation and
harmony with it's natural water entity.
